Whether you're a singer who dances, or a dancer who sings, or at least makes a joyful noise (or lip-synchs with great expression), enjoy performing song and dance numbers from great musicals. Performing opportunities will range from selected numbers from various shows presented in our Spring Recital, to 'In House" performances at our studio, to full scale productions.
Ballet Theatre (Level I and up) 1 ½ hour classes
This course focuses on the theatrical & story-telling elements of dance performance such as pantomime, use of facial expressions and gestures, & character development. Through this study, students develop more expressiveness for their dancing in general, along with the ability to portray characters and convey meaning through ‘body language’.
Each session the group will focus either on presenting a short work of its own, or be the main characters in an extended work which incorporates other dance classes. These presentations help us to reach a wider dance audience and to educate our dancers and audiences about the traditions and history of Classical Ballet, which helps to preserve it for future generations.
The class is open to all ages 7 y.o. to adult and accepts students from beginners to advanced. Participants are required to be taking at least one Ballet Technique classes at TTB (Level I or above) concurrent with Ballet Theatre enrollment. If a student has experience in theatre or music, or special skills such as baton or acrobatics, we will seek to incorporate them into our performances as well. The main requirement is the desire to play a character role in a dance performance, and the willingness to play whatever part is needed to tell the story. One time you may get to be a beautiful swan, and another time we may need you to be a whacky bird. Remember, “There are no small parts…..”
Dance Ensemble (Level III and up – with instructor approval) 2 hour classes
The TTB Dance Ensemble is a repertory performing group for more dedicated dance students who wish to advance their skills and gain additional experience. The class focuses on developing dance works from classical to contemporary forms, in groups large or small or solo. In addition to performing on TTB recitals, the Dance Ensemble performs at community events such as the Temple Terrace Relay For Life. Ensemble members understand that they are thus representatives of TTB and the Community of Temple Terrace, and are thus expected to exhibit appropriate behavior in order to present themselves and those organizations in the most positive light, and to be a positive role model for younger dancers. Participants and parent/guardian must sign the Dance Ensemble Participation Agreement. Participants are required to be taking at least two Ballet Technique classes at TTB appropriate to their level concurrent with Dance Ensemble enrollment, and are recommended to take Modern Dance, Acrobatics and other classes offered at their respective Level.
